The center will focus on research and development in blockchain technologies, with the goal of advancing the understanding and use of blockchain for a variety of applications, including financial services, supply chain management, and healthcare.
“Blockchain is a powerful technology with the potential to transform many industries,” said Arvind Krishna, IBM Chairman and CEO. “We are excited to partner with Columbia University to launch this new research center and to work together to advance the understanding and use of blockchain for the benefit of society.”
The center will be led by Dr. Anindya Banerjee, a professor of computer science at Columbia SEAS. Banerjee has been a pioneer in the field of blockchain research, and he is the author of the book “Blockchain: A Blueprint for a New Economy.”
“This collaboration with IBM is a great opportunity for Columbia SEAS to further our research in blockchain technologies,” said Banerjee. “We are excited to work with IBM to develop new blockchain applications and to help bring this technology to the mainstream.”
