"We are writing to express our concern over the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's (OCC) recent actions related to cryptocurrency," the Representatives wrote. "We believe that the OCC has been overstepping its statutory authority and that its actions could stifle innovation in the cryptocurrency industry."
The Representatives specifically take issue with the OCC's interpretive letter on cryptocurrency custody, which they argue "exceeds the OCC's statutory authority under the National Bank Act." They also criticize the OCC's recent advisory on stablecoins, which they say "is unnecessary and could harm innovation."
"We urge the OCC to withdraw its recent cryptocurrency-related interpretive letters and advisories," the Representatives wrote. "We also urge the OCC to work with Congress to develop a comprehensive framework for regulating cryptocurrency."
