Leading House Democrat Solicits Feedback From Gensler and Yellen on Crypto Bill
**Washington, D.C. –** Today, House Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) sent a letter to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen requesting their feedback on draft legislation to regulate cryptocurrencies. The legislation, introduced by Rep. Darren Soto (D-FL), would create a new regulatory framework for digital assets that would be overseen by the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
In her letter, Chairwoman Waters expressed support for the need to regulate cryptocurrencies and noted that the draft legislation “would provide much-needed clarity for investors and the market.” She also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the regulatory framework is “consistent with the President’s Executive Order on Ensuring Responsible Development of Digital Assets.”
Chairwoman Waters requested that Chair Gensler and Secretary Yellen provide their feedback on the draft legislation by March 8, 2023.
