The project, called Yield Protocol, is the brainchild of two anonymous developers who go by the names "Seth" and "Harry." In a blog post announcing the project, Seth and Harry said that they believe that governance tokens are a "major source of centralization" in the DeFi space.
"Governance tokens give a small group of users outsized control over a project," they wrote. "This can lead to corruption, rent-seeking, and other problems."
Yield Protocol will instead use a "liquid democracy" model, in which users can delegate their voting power to other users who they trust. This, Seth and Harry argue, will make it more difficult for any one group of users to gain control of the project.
"Liquid democracy is a more decentralized and democratic way to govern a project," they wrote. "It prevents any one group of users from gaining outsized control, and it ensures that the project is always moving in the direction that the majority of users want."
Yield Protocol is still in development, but the team plans to launch a public testnet in the coming weeks. The mainnet is expected to launch later this year.
