In an interview with Bloomberg, Buterin said that he believes the current focus on price speculation is "a little bit misplaced."
"I think the focus should be on building the technology," he said. "And if the technology is good, then the price will follow."
Buterin also said that he believes the cryptocurrency industry is still in its early stages, and that there is still a lot of work to be done.
"We're still in the very early days of this technology," he said. "And I think there's a lot of work to be done before we can really say that we have a fully-fledged financial system that's based on blockchain technology."
